Department of Informatics
The Department of Informatics studies the collection, processing, analysis, design, publication, and management of data within the context of contemporary information technologies. In accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, it operates as an interdisciplinary support department under the rectorate for the purpose of coordinating courses in the field of informatics. It organizes and provides education for computer and informatics-based courses needed by various departments. The weekly distributions of the computer laboratories are created according to the software suitable for the course content.
In the training sessions, emphasis is placed on students becoming computer literate, as well as being able to use cognitive and internet technologies effectively. Additionally, students gain knowledge about current software and hardware used in their specific professions. They also learn how to access reliable information sources for scientific research and acquire the skills to format a project or report in the required manner.
In addition to the courses defined in the curriculum under the field of “Information Technologies,” elective courses with current content are also offered. These courses may include Information Security, Web Design and Content Management, Material Design, Resource Scanning and Report Preparation, Computer-Aided Design, Distance Education, and Management Information Systems. In practical training conducted in PC and MAC laboratories, examples and content specific to the students’ respective fields are enriched based on their department.
Computer training is organized in the Cultural Center building on our campus. There are 15 PC laboratories with a capacity of 30 students each, equipped with high-speed processors and memory, and 3 MAC laboratories. Each laboratory is supported by smart boards, projectors, and fiber internet access.
The laboratories are continuously updated with hardware and software in line with contemporary standards. The Informatics Department collaborates with the university's Information Technology unit to ensure that the laboratories are prepared in accordance with the curriculum at the beginning of each course.
