Environmental sustainability aims to protect natural resources, keep ecosystems in balance and create an environment that can meet the needs of future generations. This concept is supported by applications such as reducing the carbon footprint, energy efficiency, renewable energy use and waste management. Sustainability plays a critical role in combating problems such as global climate change, biodiversity loss and depletion of water resources.

In this sense, green buildings are defined as structures designed and constructed in line with environmental sustainability goals. These buildings have features such as efficient use of energy and water resources, low carbon emissions, use of recyclable materials and improvement of indoor air quality. The economic and social advantages of green buildings are emphasized as much as their environmental benefits. In particular, certification systems such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) are pioneers in determining green building standards.

In this context, a seminar titled "Environmental Sustainability and Green Buildings" will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:00 in the Architecture and Design Amphitheatre by Architect Müge Emen Göytam (Green Building Consultant) under the coordination of Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuh Uğur Karslı, faculty member of the Faculty of Architecture and Design.
