ORGANIZED EVENTS

Local Disaster Volunteer Online Training Program

Organized by the Center for Practice and Research for Street Children (SOYAÇ) under the coordination of Maltepe University’s Sustainability Club and Disaster Solidarity Network (ADA), the "SOYAÇ Local Disaster Volunteer Online Training Program" is offered to academics, administrative staff, and students within Maltepe University. The training program will be held from May 13 to June 2, 2024. All members of our university are invited to participate in this training.

Participants: Those who successfully complete the training and pass the competency exam will be awarded a "Certificate of Achievement."

Training Duration: A 20-hour program in total.

Training Dates: The program will run from May 13 to June 2, 2024.

Training Format:

The training consists of 12 sessions, 10 of which will be conducted online.

The remaining 2 sessions will be in-person practical training held at Maltepe University on June 1 and 2, 2024. Attendance at both in-person practical sessions is mandatory.

Time and Attendance: Online sessions will be held from 20:00 to 22:00, and attendance is mandatory. In case of an excuse, only one session may be missed.

About the Local Disaster Volunteer Online Training Program:

This program aims to enhance societal resilience against disasters and equip participants with essential knowledge and skills.

May 13, 2024 - Monday: Local Disaster Volunteering/ Incident Command System

  • Preparation and organization before disasters
  • Establishment and operation of the incident command center
  • Communication and coordination strategies

May 15, 2024 - Wednesday: Introduction to Light Urban Search and Rescue

  • Principles of search and rescue
  • Basic search techniques and equipment usage
  • Risk assessment and safety protocols

May 16, 2024 - Thursday: Light Urban Search and Rescue/ Preliminary Damage Assessment

  • Techniques for preliminary damage assessment
  • Strategies for working in high-risk areas
  • Emergency management and rapid response plans

May 17, 2024 - Friday: Introduction to Search and Rescue

  • Overview of search and rescue operations
  • Safety precautions and equipment usage
  • Strategies for responding to multiple casualties

May 20, 2024 - Monday: Main Equipment/ Disaster Psychology

  • Basic rescue equipment and its usage
  • Disaster psychology and stress management
  • Intra-team communication and motivation

May 22, 2024 - Wednesday: Basic First Aid 1

  • Basic life support and airway management
  • Bleeding control and wound care
  • Response to minor traumas like fractures and dislocations

May 24, 2024 - Friday: Basic First Aid 2

  • First aid for poisonings, burns, and frostbite
  • Intervention for unconsciousness and paralysis
  • Practical applications for emergency scenarios

May 27, 2024 - Monday: Basic First Aid 3

  • First aid for heart attacks, strokes, and other critical health issues
  • Response to electric shock and other emergencies
  • Ambulance calls and professional help referrals

May 28, 2024 - Tuesday: Disaster First Aid

  • Special requirements for first aid in disaster settings
  • Health services for multiple victims and communities
  • Emergency medical intervention and triage systems

May 30, 2024 - Thursday: Basic Fire Safety

  • Fire evacuation plans and evacuation strategies
  • Use of firefighting equipment
  • First aid after fire incidents and risk assessment

June 1, 2024 - Saturday: In-Person Practical Training

  • Application of theoretical knowledge
