Call for Application to Intellectual Property Rights and Related Violations in Electronic Commerce Research Group
Maltepe University Technology and Intellectual Property Law Application and Research Center (MÜTFİM) Research Group Announcement
A research group titled “Intellectual Property Rights and Related Violations in Electronic Commerce” will be established within the Maltepe University Technology and Intellectual Property Law Application and Research Center (“MÜTFİM”) under the leadership of Dr. Betül AKTAŞ ERTAN, Faculty Member in the Commercial Law Department of Maltepe University Faculty of Law and Director of our Center, and Dr. Cansu YENER KESKİN, Faculty Member in the Private International Law Department of Kocaeli University Faculty of Law.
Purpose of the Research Group:
Our research group will focus on the protection of intellectual property rights in electronic commerce and the identification of violations in this area. Our goal is to conduct academic studies that contribute to identifying threats to intellectual property rights, evaluating protective measures, and developing the legal framework, especially in the digitalized trade environment.
Research Topics and Objectives:
Aiming to raise awareness in Türkiye and contribute to national/international studies in this field, the planned research topics for our group include:
- Protection of trademarks and instances of infringement in electronic commerce,
- Cases of unfair competition encountered in electronic commerce,
- Protection of copyright on digital platforms,
- Reflections of patent and industrial design rights in the digital environment,
- Domain name violations and their resolution methods,
- Data theft and protection of intellectual property rights on e-commerce platforms,
- Examination of regulatory practices for intellectual property rights in electronic commerce in Türkiye and worldwide.
Targeted Outputs:
The targeted outputs of our research group are:
- Preparation of comprehensive reports on intellectual property violations and protection in electronic commerce,
- Publication of academic articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals,
- Development of guidance documents for legal professionals and the business community on intellectual property rights in electronic commerce,
- Organization of seminars and workshops in collaboration with universities, public institutions, and the private sector,
- Development of educational materials and online resources in the field of intellectual property law, and
- Preparation of policy documents that provide suggestions and solutions for legislative improvement.
Eligible Applicants:
Our research group is open to:
- Lawyers with at least 5 years of experience in intellectual property law or electronic commerce law, or who hold a master's degree with thesis in these fields, and
- Faculty members and research assistants at the doctoral stage.
