Exams, Assessment and Grading
Students are subjected to a final exam in addition to the exams they have taken or the work they have done before. At least one midterm exam is given to students each semester. In addition to midterm exams, quizzes can be given without specifying a date.
The criteria to be taken into consideration in the evaluation of success in courses (such as midterm exams, homework, final exams, etc.) and the rates related to these are specified in the curriculum programs and course syllabuses distributed to students at the beginning of the semester or published on the website. Final exams are held on the dates, places and times announced by the University. Students' end-of-term success grades are given by the instructor responsible for the course according to their midterm exam, final exam grades, the work they have done during the semester and the course attendance rules. Courses for which no midterm exams and/or final exams will be held are determined by the relevant department heads and college directorates and forwarded to the Student Affairs Department, and the end-of-term success grades for these courses are determined according to the work students have done during the semester.
The final grades, together with the success evaluation criteria, are submitted to the Student Affairs Department by the relevant faculty member.
Grading principles and success conditions
For students who entered in 2009 and before (Regulation 1-Y1):
In determining the success grade a student receives from a course, the level of success shown in the year/semester studies related to that course, the grade point average of the midterm exams and the grade received at the end of the year/semester are evaluated together. If the relevant faculty member deems it appropriate, he/she may evaluate homework, laboratory and similar course-related studies and announced short exams separately or as a single midterm exam in addition to the midterm exams. However, in order to be considered successful in a course; a grade of at least 50 out of 100 is required in the midterm, end-of-year exam or make-up exam (CC in letter form). The effect of the midterm exam grade on the success grade is 40% and the effect of the final/make-up exam is 60%. In common compulsory courses such as Turkish Language and Literature, Fine Arts, Sports, and Music, evaluations are made as successful or unsuccessful.
For students enrolled in 2010 and later (Regulation 2-Y2):
Teaching staff evaluates each student registered for their courses using the relative success evaluation method of ÖİS in accordance with the 31st, 32nd and 33rd articles of the Republic of Turkey Maltepe University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training and Examination Regulation, and one of the following success grades is given as the student's course success grade.
AA, BA, BB, CB and CC grades indicate that the course is successful; DC and DD grades indicate that the course is successful if the success conditions based on the weighted grade point average specified in this Regulation are met. F grade is given for unsuccessful students.
The table below provides the letter, point equivalent and coefficient of the semester course grade for students subject to Y1 and Y2 Regulations.
