Maltepe University Search and Rescue Union (MUSAR) was established in 2008 by a decision of the Maltepe University Board of Trustees and operates as a professional team based entirely on voluntary work. Its primary objective is to meet the needs for assistance in the event of disasters and emergencies occurring within the Marmara Education Village, where Maltepe University is located, as well as domestically and internationally, through rapid and effective intervention.
MUSAR's primary mission is to reach disaster areas as quickly as possible to carry out search and rescue operations, provide food, psychosocial support and medical assistance; as well as to organise training to raise disaster awareness, hold awareness-raising events and prepare academic publications. Since its establishment, MUSAR has organised countless training sessions, drills and conferences, continuously developing its knowledge and experience and providing comprehensive and up-to-date training to its volunteers.
Furthermore, MUSAR is one of the founding members of the International Universities Search and Rescue Council (IUSARC), which acts as a bridge between universities active in the field of Search and Rescue, reflecting its emphasis on international cooperation. This enables it to support search and rescue efforts on both national and international platforms and to pioneer developments in crisis management.
MUSAR continues on its path as a strong community with a collaborative and people-centred approach, aiming to save lives during disasters and raise awareness about disasters within society.
