In cooperation with Maltepe University SOYAÇ Center and the Aid Convoy Association, an inclusive event was held to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25. The event took place at the sewing workshop established jointly by SOYAÇ and the Aid Convoy Association in the Mimar Sinan Temporary Living Center in the Üçgedik neighborhood of Antakya. A special poster was prepared and empowering awareness-raising activities were carried out to highlight gender-based violence.
As part of a three-month sewing workshop held over the summer under the coordination of the Aid Convoy Association and with the support of instructors from the Public Education Center, women from different age groups and with varying needs collaborated to create a handcrafted banner bearing the message: “Every Hope Stitched, Every Woman Empowered Heals the Community.” This banner became the symbol of the event. The initiative represents a significant step towards expanding protection mechanisms against violence to reach all women. Furthermore, special efforts are underway to support the rehabilitation of adolescents driven to crime or life on the streets in the aftermath of the earthquake.
Representatives from the Aid Convoy Association and the SOYAÇ Center announced their plans to organize special events during the week of December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with a focus on women with disabilities. These activities aim to protect and empower women from all segments of society. By doing so, the project also seeks to prevent the children and adolescents under their care from being drawn into crime or life on the streets. In particular, by improving access to protection mechanisms for elderly and disabled women, the initiative embraces a holistic approach to “healing the entire society.
