The fourth session of the SOYAÇ Volunteer Meetings seminar series continued with Prof. Dr. Bahattin Akşit's online session titled "Dinar (1995), Marmara (1999), and Maraş (2023): 28 Years of Earthquake Experience." The event was held on Friday, May 31, 2024, between 14:00-15:30. Students who attended all sessions of the seminar series have earned a "certificate of participation."

About the Speaker Prof. Dr. Bahattin Akşit: Prof. Dr. Bahattin Akşit graduated from METU (Middle East Technical University) with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1968. He began his academic career at METU, where he served in various positions including department chair, vice dean, and director of the Institute of Social Sciences. He completed his master's degree in 1971 and received his doctoral degree from the University of Chicago's Department of Sociology in 1975.

In addition to his academic work, he has gained international experience. He served as a visiting professor at the University of London for 6 months and at Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University for 2 years. Since 2007, he has been working as a professor in the Department of Sociology at Maltepe University and has also served as the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Maltepe University. After a long and successful academic career and successfully completing his role as dean, Akşit continues to be recognized as a prominent academic with his contributions to sociology and scientific studies even after his retirement.
