Maltepe University Department of Philosophy
Founded in 2004, the Department of Philosophy does not only teach philosophy in the context of the history of philosophy, but also emphasizes a systematic approach that enables students to look at philosophical concepts, questions and problems from a broad perspective. Within the framework of the curriculum, students of the Department of Philosophy are introduced to mathematical knowledge as well as human and social sciences. Emphasizing that the human being is a social, historical and cultural being, the Department takes into account the students' acquaintance with the common cultural heritage of humanity and prioritizes the acquisition of the ability to use technology as a necessity of the age.
UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality and Culture
The UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Culture was inaugurated on 25 October 2019 with the participation of Dr. Saniye Gülser Corat, UNESCO Director for Gender Equality, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Saktanber and Ms. Esra Hatipoğlu Aksoyoğlu, Sector Specialist of the UNESCO Turkish National Committee. The Founding Chair of the Chair is Prof. Dr. Hülya Şimga. The Chair of the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Culture has been held by Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Bozok since February 2024.
Since its establishment, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has been drawing attention to women's human rights, women's empowerment and gender equality and has been working on these issues at the international level. Gender equality, one of UNESCO's two global priorities, is also one of the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals. While there are two chairs in Giresun University and Koç University among the 25 UNESCO chairs that have been working on gender equality in various countries by focusing on different problems, this number has increased to three with the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Culture at Maltepe University.
Maltepe University UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Culture aims to conduct scientific research and applications at national and international level, develop projects, conduct educational activities, organize scientific meetings and work in cooperation with other chairs in the UniTwin/UNESCO Chairs program, with a particular focus on the relationship between gender issues and culture.
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Turkey Office
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a private, independent, public, cultural and non-profit organization committed to the ideas and core values of social democracy. Promoting democracy, social justice and development worldwide, contributing to peace and security, strengthening the idea of international solidarity, shaping globalization in solidarity and supporting the enlargement and deepening of the European Union are the main defining objectives of FES's international work. FES is active in more than 100 countries and in Germany.
Civil society organizations, universities and research institutes, trade unions, professional chambers, associations, parliaments and ministries, local governments, media representatives, as well as international organizations are among the organizations that FES works with in Turkey. For 25 years, FES has been organizing workshops, seminars, presentations and international conferences, publishing declarations and supporting scientific research in Turkey with its Turkish partners. Not only in Ankara and Istanbul, but also in many other small and medium-sized cities and towns in Turkey.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality
In October 2017, Istanbul was recognized as a UNESCO City of Design by the unanimous vote of UNESCO and member cities of the Creative Cities Network.
Within the scope of UNESCO City of Design Istanbul, as a result of the meeting held with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Directorate of Studies and Projects on October 6, 2020, various projects and activities will be carried out with IBB in partnership with MÜKÇAM and UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Culture in line with the UNESCO Conference to be held in Istanbul in 2022 and the fulfillment of the commitments made from the perspective of gender equality and human rights.
SEGM, Sustainable Education Development and Excellence Association
Founded in 2019, SEGM Association aims to carry out activities that support the human element without any discrimination such as religion, color, ethnicity, gender and similar discrimination, to participate in existing studies, to carry out sustainability activities with the business world and non-governmental organizations by aiming to spread the sustainable, qualified, solid-based, beneficial, "lifelong education and development understanding" in the society together with private sector, public and non-governmental organizations.
UNESCO Chair in Philosophy and Human Rights
With an agreement signed between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO and Maltepe University on 13 May 2009, the 'UNESCO Chair in Philosophy and Human Rights' was established at Maltepe University under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Ioanna Kuçuradi. The aim of the Chair is to focus on concept and content studies and to present Turkey's contributions in the field of human rights.
Maltepe University Human Rights Research and Application Center
T.C. Maltepe University Human Rights Research and Implementation Center was established on December 9, 2005 and started to run thesis and non-thesis master's programs in the 2008-2009 academic year. Within the framework of non-formal education programs, the Center organizes human rights and ethics training programs for public officials in cooperation with the Human Rights Boards of the districts in the region.
The Center's mission is to contribute, through its research, meetings, publications, books, formal and non-formal education and other activities, to increasing the number of people who look at what is happening in Turkey and the world from a human rights perspective, to spreading this perspective, and to ensuring that laws are based on clearly understood human rights. The Center's vision is a Turkey and a world where there are no human rights violations due to ignorance, where people do not die from treatable diseases, where there are no hungry people, and where an increasing number of people live a life worthy of human dignity.
