A New Research Infrastructure at Our University: Supercritical Fluid Technologies Application and Research Laboratory (SAT-UARLAB)

To strengthen our university’s research and innovation capacity, the Supercritical Fluid Technologies Application and Research Laboratory (SAT-UARLAB), a significant infrastructure investment in the field of advanced extraction technologies, is being established.

The Supercritical CO₂ Extraction and Fractionation System to be installed within the laboratory will enable the recovery of high-value bioactive compounds from medicinal and aromatic plants, oilseeds, fruit seeds, algae, and other natural biological raw materials.

Research will be conducted on the production of punicic acid (Omega-5) from pomegranate seeds, thymoquinone from black cumin seeds, curcuminoids from turmeric, proanthocyanidins from grape seeds, carnosol and carnosic acid from rosemary, phytosterols from pumpkin seeds, functional fatty acids from hemp seeds, as well as various essential oils, natural antioxidants, and nutraceutical raw materials. The system will also play an active role in scientific studies in the field of traditional and complementary medicine through the research and development of naturally derived bioactive compounds.

Supercritical CO₂ technology is an environmentally friendly and innovative method that enables the production of high-purity natural extracts while preserving their biological activity, without the use of chemical solvents. This technology will support the development of new products in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, functional food, and biotechnology sectors.

The laboratory will serve as an important research center contributing to educational activities, postgraduate thesis studies, interdisciplinary R&D projects, industry collaborations, technology transfer, and patent development processes.

We hope that the laboratory will bring lasting value to our university and the scientific community and make significant contributions to our country’s scientific and technological advancement.
