Psychodrama as a tool for intercultural / international cooperation – a workshop seminar with guests from abroad

Seminar description:

Psychodrama is a tool that has been developed in the early 20th century by J.L. Moreno, a psychiatrist and social activist. As a psychiatrist, he wanted to cure individuals, as a social activist, instead, societies and even the whole of humanity. Psychodrama works for both; and since it is scene-based, action-oriented and suited for nonverbal work, it works particularly well in trans-and cross- and intercultural contexts. That is, it helps people(s), who are native to different cultures to better understand each other. We invite students from our partner universities to this seminar to get to know psychodrama (and each other) in a larger international and intercultural group. This is possible online without any hassle or travel costs.

We cannot unite nations, but young people from different nations and continents.

Aims:

  • To bring about a (greater) knowledge and integration of the theories and methods of community life, human relationships and social and group therapy developed by J. L. Moreno.

  • To use these methods to communicate, cooperate and accomplish one’s goals despite different cultural habits and values and to learn on their use in national contexts.
Psychodrama training usually lasts at least two years, more likely longer. Angelika has worked in many countries that cannot afford such a long training and has modified methods and training accordingly.

  • To increase one’s level of sensitivity and tolerance towards people from other countries and cultures.

  • To grow as a person through encounter and sharing.

  • To learn about the benefits and effects of humor in social work and therapy - and to have fun together.

Methods

This is an online-seminar on a zoom platform with practical exercises, cultural simulation, role plays and case studies – and work on texts, with films and presentations. The seminar is rather practically oriented and it is intended to show how the knowledge can be applied in real-life scenarios.

Duration / Setting

Four three-hour online meetings at two-week intervals starting on April 2021. Any necessary exams will be taken on national sides – for the German group: on a real life meeting (if possible) at the end of June.
